What are Weighted Grades?
In high school and college, courses usually employ a ‘weighted’ system where clusters of comparable assignments (homework, quizzes, tests, etc.) are worth variable amounts of your final course grade. This information is usually found on your course syllabus. If it is not, ask your instructor.
This means that 15 points scored on an essay is not always equal to 15 points scored on a project. Your instructor will add together all the points for each cluster of assessments, and then ‘weight’ them at the end of the semester. This is how they calculate the final grade that you receive at the end of the semester.
