How to Renew or Reinstate a Teachers License in Texas
Renewal of Teaching Certification
Once you have your Standard License, it is good for 5 years. You have to finish 150 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) every 5 years to renew it. A listing of sanctioned methods of acquiring CPE hours can be found here.
You have to keep written documentation of all of your CPE activities, including provider name, ID number, date, and content of the activity, and the number of hours claimed. You can renew your standard license 6 months before its expiration via the online system and pay all required fees online as well. You will be required to submit to a criminal background check at the time of renewal.
Teaching Certification Reinstatement
If your teaching license is not renewed, it is placed on inactive status. To reinstate it, you have to pay an additional fee of $40 and meet the CPE conditions for renewal. Your license can be revoked for not fulfilling student loan and/or child support payment obligations. You have to pay an extra $50 to reinstate your license once you are current in making your payments and have fulfilled CPE conditions.
