How to Renew or Reinstate a Teachers License in Kentucky
Renewal of Teaching Certification
Once you obtain your Kentucky teaching license, it is good for 5 years. For your first renewal, you have to:
- Finalize Section I of the Application for License Renewal/Duplicate
- Have your school superintendent fill out Section II of the application, confirming that you have at least 3 years of teaching experience within the past 5 years
- Submit application renewal fee via check or money order payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer
- Show verification of 15 graduate hours or fulfill half of the CEO (Continuing Education Option) conditions
For the second 5-year renewal of your teaching license, you have to:
- Finalize Section I of the Application for License Renewal/Duplicate
- Have your school superintendent fill out Section II of the application, confirming that you have at least 3 years of teaching experience within the past 5 years
- Finalize a sanctioned master’s degree program (32 graduate hours) or complete the CEO conditions
- Send application renewal fee via check or money order payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer
For 5-year renewals of your teaching license, you have to:
- Finalize Section I of the Application for License Renewal/Duplicate
- Have your school superintendent fill out Section II of the application, confirming that you have at least 3 years of teaching experience within the past 5 years
- Submit application renewal fee through check or money order payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer

Teaching Certification Reinstatement
Suppose your teaching license lapses and you do not renew it before the expiration date. In so, you can still use the Application for License Renewal/Duplicate form and pay the extra fee indicated on the form. You have to, of course, meet all of the applicable conditions above for renewal.
