hand2mind and Teach Your Heart Out Donate Resources to Schools Recovering from Hurricane Michael
National education organizations partner to deliver hands-on learning materials to Florida schools struggling to rebuild after last fall’s storm
(Panama City, FL) January 22, 2019 – hand2mind, a leader in helping educators create a hands-on learning experience since 1965, has partnered with Teach Your Heart Out to deliver approximately $400,000 worth of hands-on learning materials to Bay District Schools in Florida that were damaged by Hurricane Michael last fall.
The donation of a truckload of resources—including hands-on materials, books, and supplies— was distributed districtwide to help educators in Bay District get back to teaching and learning. To build awareness, Teach Your Heart Out produced this video about the aftermath of Hurricane Michael. Hundreds of schools in Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina were forced to close after the hurricane landed in October, with Florida hit the hardest.
“These schools are still struggling to rebuild months after Hurricane Michael hit,” hand2mind’s president Bill Chiasson said. “After what they’ve been through, we’re honored to help educators move forward not only for themselves, but also for their students.”
Custom Freight Company from Illinois donated the transport of the hand2mind resources to area schools for the start of school on January 7th. On January 12th, the district held a teacher-appreciation event for more than 100 Bay District teachers that was hosted by Joe Dombrowski, a teacher and comic whose viral videos landed him on Ellen DeGeneres’ Emmy-winning talk show.
“Bay District Schools and the Bay County community are just so appreciative to get these materials into our teachers’ and students’ hands,” said Katie McCurdy, Bay District Schools & GCSC STEM Administrator. “It’s important to get them engaged in learning with rigorous materials and, most important, this donation will help get our community back on our feet!”
