Butterbeer Defined?
If you are reading this piece, you know what Butterbeer is, but if you’ve never heard of this beverage, I’ll tell you more about it. It began in the Harry Potter book series. It’s a favorite beverage at Hogwarts.
Butterbeer is a cream soda drink that combines butterscotch flavor into the soda and has butterscotch integrated into a layer of cream floats on top of the sweet drink.
Butterbeer came to life for people at Universal Orlando Resort when they opened the Harry Potter theme park. They serve Butterbeer at Universal, and it’s amazing! It brings the books to life.
The only place you can order official Butterbeer is at one of the two Universal theme parks, so learning how to make our Butterbeer version is a treat for the kids at home.
There is also a frozen rendition of the drink that tastes delicious.
Butterbeer Ingredients
Cream soda – canned or bottled cream soda drink is the foundation for this recipe.
Butterscotch syrup – don’t be liberal with this ingredient – it’s the foundation of Butterbeer. Caramel won’t give you the identical flavor. You can buy butterscotch syrup or butterscotch sauce where you purchase chocolate syrup in the grocery store.
Heavy cream – we used heavy whipping cream. Regular milk is not thick enough.
Sugar – white granulated sugar, so it mixes well with the whipped cream
Vanilla – pure vanilla extract for the best flavor
Butter – melted butter adds a depth that compliments the butterscotch inside the drink and gives Butterbeer part of its name!
How To Make Butterbeer
- Begin by mixing the cream soda and butterscotch syrup in a bowl. Whisk together until butterscotch is infused.
- Using an electric mixer with the whisk attachment, whisk the heavy cream until it gets stiff. Next, put in sugar, vanilla, and melted butter until infused.
- Pour the cream soda mixture into mugs or cups and top with whipped cream
- For increased richness, drizzle butterscotch or caramel syrup on the whipped cream
I must admit, we miss having the same thing; our Butterbeer recipe tastes just as good! It’s like going to Universal studios and buying a pint! Even J.K. Rowling would love this recipe of the Butterbeer she made so popular.
Butterbeer is a delicious drink that’s just right for a Harry Potter movie marathon, Harry Potter birthday parties, or any type of party. Harry Potter fans absolutely love it.
