- University of California, Berkeley, CA
The graduate degree program in sociology receives about 385 applications annually and grants admission to about 25 learners per year. The American Sociological Association hosts competitions for the top dissertation in sociology, and Berkeley learners have won six of the past 24 awards. The school has a PhD in sociology along with a dual PhD degree program in sociology and demography.
- University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI
The sociology department offers its learners with options to study concepts including aging, economic sociology, social stratification, organizational and occupational analysis, the sociology of law and society, and sociology of the family. Learners enrolled in the PhD degree program earn a master of science in sociology on the path to completing the PhD.
- Harvard University, Cambridge, MA
The school has PhD degrees in sociology, sociology and social policy, and organizational behavior. Doctoral learners can select concentrations and work with faculty that has expertise in that field. The degree program includes classwork on theory, along with qualitative methods.
